TAGUIG CITY - After the series of Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaigns in Luzon last July and in the Visayas in September, the Department of Energy (DOE), together with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) hosted the Mindanao-leg of the Virtual Energy Investment IEC Campaigns on Wednesday (10 November) with the theme, “Diskarteng Enerhiya: Mura na, Malinis Pa!”.
Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said, “As part of our advocacy, we continue to regularly hold these briefings to further coordinate and provide our stakeholders with timely updates on energy developments. Thus, we need to double our efforts to encourage the implementation of more energy projects, and this is where we fully prepare our LGUs to provide greater access to energy services, lessen costs, and provide more options for our consumers”.
The IEC for Mindanao provided energy stakeholders an overview of the energy sector's existing policies, programs, and initiatives to reduce electricity costs as we progress towards economic recovery amidst the pandemic.
There were breakout sessions to discuss various mechanisms on Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA), Green Energy Option (GEOP), Net Metering, Renewable Energy Systems in Remote Areas, and Energy Efficiency and Conservation (EE&C).
Secretary Cusi graced the event together with other DOE officials, Retail Electricity Suppliers Association Vice President Raymond R. Roseus, Independent Electricity Market Operator of the Philippines (IEMOP) Manager for Corporate Strategy and Program Management Ruzeil T. Gimpaya, and Philippine National Oil Company (PNOC) Program Manager Engr. Airene Hipolito, along with other government agencies and energy stakeholders.
