(Taguig City). The 6.3 magnitude earthquake that struck near Nasugbu, Batangas at 1:28 p.m. Friday did not cause any outage as the energy facilities were not affected by the temblor.

The major energy facilities situated in Batangas, including the Malampaya offshore platform in the West Philippine Sea, are operating normally and remain in good condition after the earthquake.

On the supply side, post-earthquake initial inspections showed that the integrity of the Malampaya subsea pipeline and onshore gas plant were also not affected.

Additionally, there is an on-going physical inspection of the onshore gas supply line to the natural gas power plants owned by First Gen Corp. (Tabangao-Sta. Rita pipeline).

On the transmission side, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP), the operator of the power grid, announced that the power transmission services are stable.

In its advisory, the grid remains intact as there had been no reported cases of power interruptions.

The NGCP is still assessing if there are damaged transmission facilities in Metro Manila and surrounding areas.

For distribution, the Manila Electric Co. (MERALCO) reported no outage and no facilities were affected. The utility serving Metro Manila and its nearby provinces is operating normally.

Furthermore, the National Electrification Administration reported that Region 4-A (CALABARZON) electric cooperatives are also under normal power condition.

Sec. Alfonso G. Cusi directed the DOE to continuously monitor the energy situation and to provide any update as it becomes available.
