PANGASINAN – The Department of Energy – Luzon Field Office (DOE-LFO) participated in the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) briefing on Executive Order (EO) No. 608, “Establishing a National Security Clearance System for Government Personnel with Access to Classified Matters and for Other Purposes”, held at the DOE-LFO Conference Room.

DOE Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said, “It is our duty to safeguard our vital energy facilities from becoming vulnerable to all kinds of threats. In addition to protecting our actual energy infrastructure, another core component of security is our ability to empower our officials and personnel with the proper knowledge on handling of all official documents, particularly those which are classified.”

The briefing was conducted to prevent security lapses from occurring within agencies such as the DOE, especially since these may include national security threats and provide hostile groups with opportunities to infiltrate the government.

NICA Assistant Regional Director Remus B. Rabara led the presentation, which highlighted the importance of requiring government personnel to obtain security clearances before gaining access to classified information. In addition, Dir. Rabara also discussed the protocol to be observed by staff in ensuring the integrity of official documents, and the designation of an official Security Officer to handle the implementation of EO 608.
