TAGUIG CITY - The Department of Energy (DOE) recently conducted an exit conference with the Commission on Election (COMELEC) to acknowledge the energy sector on its efforts to ensure a sufficient supply of energy during the critical periods of the 2022 National and Local Elections (NLE).

To conclude the coordination for the NLE 2022, the COMELEC met with the Department of Energy’s Officials to personally express their gratitude for the successful conduct of the 2022 election.

Director Teopisto E. Elnas Jr. of COMELEC-Office of the Deputy Executive Director for Operations (ODEDO) gave his appreciation to the Department for its efforts and preparedness to ensure sufficient electricity supply during the election. He mentioned that the preparation of the energy and security sector played a big part in the success of this historical election and quoted, “While there were embedded batteries in the Vote Counting Machines, the teachers cannot conduct the elections; board of canvassers cannot canvass the results from the different precincts if there’s no electricity. So I would like to personally thank this Task Force for its preparations and efforts during the elections.”

Senior Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella, the Energy Task Force Election (ETFE) Chairman, acknowledged the effort of the Security Group through Undersecretary Vice Admiral Alexander S. Lopez for their excellent preparations in ensuring the security of energy facilities. He presented and highlighted all the energy sector's efforts to provide a sufficient supply of power and oil before and during the election. He also added that the energy sector must continue its efforts and improve its strategies further. Further, he also reiterated that COMELEC should consider the technical set-up of the COMELEC facilities and exercise energy efficiency to further enrich their preparation for the Barangay Elections and the coming elections.
