TFER ADVISORY: Magnitude 6.6 Earthquake in Masbate (as of 2:40 PM)

 

The Department of Energy (DOE)-led Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER) is releasing this update relative to the magnitude 6.6 earthquake that was recorded this morning (18 August) in Masbate. 

STATUS OF LIFELINE FACILITIES:

A. GENERATION

• The DMCI Cataingan Satellite Plant is on shutdown due to the earthquake. 

• Other distributed power plants are on normal operations. 

• The initial report from NPC's Bicol Operations indicate that no damages have been incurred in Masbate's SPUG facilities.

B. TRANSMISSION

• NPC's 69KV Line is operating normally.

C. DISTRIBUTION

• Power interruptions have been reported in Cataingan, Pio V. Corpus, Esperanza, Placer, Uson, Dimasalang, and Palanas, which are under the Masbate Electric Cooperative (MASELCO). 

• As of 9:30 AM today, there has also been an initial report regarding a toppled C1-C7 construction assembly, supplying 3-37.5 kVA banked transformer to Cataingan National High School. Checking of the affected areas is currently ongoing. 

Rest assured that the entire energy family is working together to safely restore power in affected areas.
