DOE Celebrates National Energy Consciousness Month

The Department of Energy (DOE) celebrates its 41st Anniversary and the 2013 National Energy Consciousness Month (NECM) this month focusing on government efforts in promoting energy security.

“The theme for this year’s celebration, Enerhiya: Katuwang ng Ekonomiya sa Pag-unlad ng Bawat Isa, encompasses the DOE’s objective to deliver sufficient and sustainable energy to sustain the nation’s economic growth,” Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla said.

NECM kicked-off activities on December 2 with the conduct of several activities promoting the energy policies and programs of the government. Some of the activities for this year include: High Level Symposium on Renewable Energy (Dec 3), 6th Asia Biomass Energy Workshop on Biofuel Database in East Asia (Dec 4-6), Energy Investment Forum (Dec 5), International Conference on Competition in the Power Industry (Dec 6), and the Net Metering Reference Guide Launch (Dec 10) among others, which will highlight renewable energy development and implementation of the power sector reforms.

The DOE will also recognize several individuals in various sectors of the economy for their energy efficiency and safety and health practices in the energy sector. This is through the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards (Dec 6) and the 9thSafety and Health Association of the Philippines in the Energy Sector Conference and Awards (Dec 9).

DOE Field offices in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will also conduct information campaigns on energy efficiency and conservation for the public and private sectors in line with the NECM.
