1st LGU Conference and MOA Signing. Secretary Angelo T. Reyes together with key DOE Officials graced the Opening Ceremonies of the 1st Local Government Units Conference held on 18 June 2009 at the Executive Lounge, 5th floor of the PNOC-EDC Building 5, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City. A Memorandum of Agreement between the DOE-Philippine Efficient Lighting Market Transformation Project (PELMATP) and the Association of City/Municipality Electrical Engineers of the Philippines, Incorporated (ACMEE) was likewise signed to promote the widespread utilization of Energy Efficient Lighting Systems (EELS) in the Philippines.
 
 

DOE Opens 2009 Bidding for Coal Areas
The Department of Energy (DOE) has opened the Philippine Energy Contracting Round (PECR) 2009 for coal. A total of 30 areas or coal block systems are being offered for this year’s contracting round. Under the PECR, winning bidders will be awarded contracts to explore and develop the country’s coal resources.  more >>

Energy Secretary Angelo T. Reyes met with Dr. Mohamed ElBaradei, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Secretariat, at the sidelines of the Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Energy in the 21st Century held in Beijing, China from April 20-22.  more >>


Pinoys Unite as Historic Hour to Save the Earth Draws Near
Filipinos from all walks of life have expressed support for Earth Hour Philippines 2009 by switching off lights in their homes, offices and businesses. From 8:30 to 9:30 in the evening on March 28, when the Philippines joins cities and countries around the globe in simultaneously switching off lights, a record number of Filipinos will vote earth to convey to the world their stand for immediate and united action against climate change.  more >>
