STATEMENT: Power Supply Situation (28 July)

(Taguig City). The Department of Energy (DOE) is closely monitoring the power supply situation in Luzon following the Forced Outage of plants due to technical problems such as boiler tube leak. The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines’ (NGCP) reported to the DOE that Yellow Alert will be experienced from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today (28 July).

As of 1:00 p.m., the available capacity stood at 9,697 MW, while the demand is projected to reach 9,251 MW. This is resulting to a 74 MW net reserve, below the required contingency reserve of Luzon grid at 647 MW.

In response, the Manila Electric Corporation (MERALCO) has already coordinated with its Interruptible Load Program (ILP) participants to augment the supply. As of 8:15 a.m., there were about 69 ILP participants with a deloading capacity of 216.63 MW.

The DOE calls on the public to practice energy efficiency and conservation measures to mitigate the current power situation.
