EMPOWERING ENERGY CONSUMERS: DOE Spokesperson and EPPB Supervising Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella led the IEC for CLSU Accounting Students on Thursday (25 March 2021).
He emphasized the importance of having a safe, sustainable and secured energy portfolio during his opening remarks.
TAGUIG CITY- As part of Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi's advocacy to establish a strong energy knowledge base among the Filipino youth, the Department of Energy (DOE), through its Energy Policy and Planning Bureau (EPPB), conducted last Thursday (25 March) a virtual Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign entitled “Energy Accounting 101 for Stakeholders” with the students and faculty members of the Central Luzon State University (CLSU).
"Exposing today's youth to energy concepts, including energy consumption habits and projections on future energy requirements is the first step towards molding empowered energy consumers," Secretary Cusi stated.
In his opening remarks, DOE Spokesperson and EPPB Supervising Undersecretary Felix William B. Fuentebella emphasized the importance of an energy portfolio that is safe, sustainable, and secure in meeting the country's future energy needs.
Meanwhile, Dr. Matilde Melicent F. Santos-Recto, Dean of the College of Business Administration and Accountancy (CBAA), welcomed the participants and the members of the DOE family. She also expressed her appreciation for the Department's prompt response in organizing the IEC, which would equip CLSU students with an overview of the energy sector, as well as the crucial role it plays in the country's economy.
During the IEC, members of the DOE-EPPB and Energy Utilization Management Bureau (EUMB) delivered presentations on the following topics:
• basic energy concepts and the role of the Philippine government in the energy sector, including the DOE's mandate, policies, and programs; sources of energy; and a basic description of the energy system from the primary to secondary levels up to the final energy consumption level (presented by DOE-EPPB Science Research Specialist I, Ms. Joice Gianne N. Vicente)
• an overview of the energy accounting process, comprised of the collection, production, and dissemination of energy data and information to support the country's energy policy formulation, planning, and decision-making strategies (presented by DOE-EPPB Science Research Specialist II, Ms. Charmaine R. Taliping)
• the country's programs, policies, and laws on energy efficiency and conservation, including energy-saving measures for major household appliances (presented by DOE-EUMB Senior Science Research Specialist, Mr. Crizaldo G. Santos).
DOE-EPPB Director Jesus T. Tamang concluded the event by discussing the importance of gaining a deeper understanding of countries' respective situations and available energy resources in energy planning.
Close to 200 students from various levels and courses at the CLSU attended the virtual conference. Also present were representatives from the DOE's Renewable Energy Management Bureau, Oil Industry Management Bureau, Electric Power Industry Management Bureau, and Energy Resource Development Bureau.
