(TAGUIG CITY) The Department of Energy (DOE) is set to kick-off its 40th Anniversary through the hosting of the 2012 National Energy Consciousness Month (NECM) under its banner theme: Achieving energy sustainability.

After launching the Bright Now! Do Right. Be Bright Campaign last year, the DOE gears up to promote aggressive energy security policies and measures to address the present and future energy needs of the country.

For the whole December, the DOE will conduct forums and programs that will promote the energy policies of the Government. These include, among others, activities highlighting the Philippine Energy Efficiency Project (PEEP), and Rural Electrification Programs at the Opening Ceremony on December 3 and the Don Emilio Abello Energy Efficiency Awards and Manila Energy Investment Forum on December 6.

Likewise, the DOE Field offices in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will also conduct information campaigns on energy efficiency and conservation for the public and private sectors.

The NECM is a month-long celebration to increase public awareness on energy-related campaigns, programs and policies of the government in accordance with Proclamation No. 1427 which declares December of every year as the "National Energy Consciousness Month."
