The Department of Energy (DOE) through the support of the Access to Sustainable Energy Program (ASEP) of the Energy Union (EU), opened today the Forum on Energy Efficiency Technologies and Best Practices to Support Government Energy Efficiency Projects at the Discovery Suites Manila in Pasig City.

The two-day event (26 and 27 September) aims to promote the available energy efficiency (EE) strategies that could be implemented in the design, construction and operation of government building projects, as well as provide government agencies with the latest developments on EE technology options and best practices.

DOE Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi noted that while government agencies stand to gain immensely from pursuing EE strategies, the lack of awareness and information on EE opportunities serve as major barriers to its incorporation in government projects and even in government owned and operated buildings. 

“This is a good opportunity for our government agencies to learn more about the concept of ‘green buildings’ and its increasing role in our country’s energy future. Imagine the amount of savings we would generate if all government buildings were built and operated with energy efficiency as a major consideration,” Sec. Cusi said.

The forum features several sessions on EE topics which include policy, equipment, lighting, building structure, information, monitoring, and metering systems, as well as renewable energy technologies.

Present today were officials from the DOE, ASEP, PNOC, DOF, NEDA, PEZA, DPWH, NEA, Energy Service Companies, and EE product manufacturers and suppliers.
