TAGUIG CITY - Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi today directed the energy sector to prepare for the incoming tropical cyclone that is expected to bring heavy rains throughout the country, especially within the areas along its path.

He instructed the Department of Energy (DOE)-led Task Force on Energy Resiliency (TFER) to ensure that the energy sector’s established disaster preparedness will be in place and compliant to the existing policies related to the COVID-19 measures.

According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the Low Pressure Area (LPA) located 435 KM East of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur may develop into a tropical depression within 48 hours, likely between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. Further, there will be immediate hoisting of Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal over Eastern Visayas and the Bicol Region once the LPA will develop into Tropical Depression (TD).

“We want to remind the energy family and other industry players to activate Command Operations Center, and implement the established action and contingency plans. We also ask them to adopt and implement other necessary mitigating measures as needed,” Sec. Cusi said.

The DOE assures the public that the energy family will continue to monitor the incoming weather disturbance and will immediately address any adverse effects to the energy systems and facilities.

Some #ESafety tips to observe during typhoons include:

•Prepare fully charged flashlights, move electrical equipment to higher ground, turn off electrical switches, and unplug electric appliances before evacuating to safer places.

•After the storm, consumers are advised to avoid downed and drowned electric posts and wires, wear safety gear such as rubber boots and gloves, have their electrical system tested by licensed electricians, and check the fuse of their main switch before turning it on.
