Cusi again met with Manila Electric Company (Meralco) officials yesterday (3 June) to discuss the implementation of his earlier suggestion to issue a new electricity bill to consumers, based on actual meter readings, and that the previous bills based on estimated consumption be disregarded.

Secretary Cusi pushed for this proposal during his 26 May 2020 meeting with Meralco, wherein he asked its officials to explain the spike in May bills and other related complaints.

Furthermore, as also suggested by the Energy Chief, Meralco will be issuing advisories explaining the May/June billings, through letters, social media posts and print media notices. He also asked them to reissue the guidelines on how consumers can avail of the installment arrangement to settle bills that fell due within the Enhanced Community Quarantine and Modified Enhanced Quarantine periods.

"Be transparent and put consumer welfare first at all times," Secretary Cusi told Meralco.
