The Department of Energy - Consumer Welfare and Promotion Office (DOE-CWPO) in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) successfully inducted 130 participants in its Energy Smart Kids Information Education and Communication (IEC) campaign with selected Grade VI student leaders and Science Teachers of Padre Burgos Elementary School (PBES) – Manila City Division last March 30, 2023.
The half-day briefing included lecture-presentations on the introduction to the DOE and the Energy Smart Kids Program, short videos on how electricity is produced and transmitted to everyone’s homes and the different sources of renewable energy, and finally, smart ways on the use of energy. Afterwards, these new energy cost busters pledged to conserve energy and help preserve the environment by applying various energy efficiency and conservation measures to reduce their energy bills and carbon footprints.
The EnerKids IEC in PBES is the first ever face-to-face seminar conducted by CWPO after the Covid-19 pandemic. Its aim is to create a core group of students nationwide who will serve as agents in providing powerful information on energy and eventually become “Energy Cost Busters” in their respective homes and schools.
The Program started in 2016 and since then become part of DOE-CWPO’s regular IEC activity.
