The Department of Energy (DOE), in cooperation with the National Renewable Energy Board (NREB), will launch the “Net Metering Reference Guide: How to avail of solar roof tops and other renewables below 100 KW in the Philippines,” a book which will serve as the standard net metering guide for Philippine electric consumers who intend to use RE technologies to power up their homes or buildings to help lower their power cost as well as secure their energy needs.

The guidebook serves as the Renewable Energy (RE) Act’s provision for Net Metering, wherein power consumers are encouraged to build their own RE system, such as a solar photovoltaic system in their roofs. The net metering reference guide completes the requirements of the renewable energy policy mechanisms.

This is also in line with the DOE’s thrusts towards encouraging the people’s participation for renewable energy promotion in the country.

Key stakeholders in the renewable energy industry including the energy family, public & private financial institutions, the academe, RE developers, small medium enterprises, and end-users among others, are expected to grace the net metering guide launch which will be held on 10 December 2013 at the Intercontinental Hotel, Makati City.

Aside from the book launch, the DOE and NREB will also promote the net metering guide through a series of information, education, and communication (IEC) campaigns across the country.

At present, the country has a total RE installation of 5,521 megawatts in capacity, which the DOE targets to be doubled by 2030.
