EMPOWERED STUDENTS: More than 100 students from the Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) took part in the DOE-CWPO’s ENEReady campaign held on 17 September 2019 at the BCNHS Library.

BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Energy-Consumer Welfare Promotion Office (DOE-CWPO) together with the Girl Scouts of the Philippines (GSP), conducted its ENEReady Information, Education and Motivation (IEM) campaign for the Grades 9 and 10 students of Baguio City National High School (BCNHS) at the school’s library on 17 September 2019.

As a continuing effort of the Department to reach more students in the Cordillera Administrative Region, the program with the theme, “Breaking Gender Stereotypes in the Energy Workforce," aims to prepare students for the energy challenges of the 21st century. 

“This program seeks to encourage our youth, regardless of their gender, to pursue their career in the field of science, technology, and engineering. Part of securing our energy needs is ensuring that the industry is abundant with capable and competent professionals,” Energy Secretary Alfonso G. Cusi said.

During the interactive discussion, resource speakers from the DOE-Energy Resource Development Bureau, Renewable Energy Management Bureau, and Benguet Electric Cooperative, talked about their work experiences and roles in the energy field. They also imparted practical lessons gained from their respective technical vocations to inspire the students to become future energy professionals.

The speakers also provided insights on various topics such as the upstream (exploration, drilling, extraction, and production) and downstream (transmission, distribution, and utilization) oil industries, electric power, and renewable energy.

The DOE ENEReady program, launched in 2016, has now reached more than 3,000 students after the Baguio City visit.
