DOE Reports Strong Progress Under Task Force 200, Advances Delivery of New Power Capacity
The Department of Energy (DOE) today announced significant progress under Task Force 200, with 40 energy projects completed in 2026 and additional generating capacity moving steadily toward commercial operation, reinforcing the government's commitment to ensuring a reliable, adequate, and secure power supply for the Filipino people.
Task Force 200 is a DOE-led initiative created to accelerate the completion of 200 power projects that President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. directed the Department to fast-track over the next three years in his 4th State of the Nation Address, by addressing implementation bottlenecks, coordinating regulatory requirements, and working closely with concerned government agencies and private developers to ensure the timely delivery of additional power supply across the country.
To date, the completed projects have brought 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of new capacity into full commercial operation. Among these are nine battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a combined capacity of 169.7MW, providing greater operational flexibility and strengthening grid reliability as the country continues to expand the integration of renewable energy into the power system.
Meanwhile, 14 additional projects with a combined capacity of 371.8MW are currently in the advanced stages of testing and commissioning and are expected to enter commercial operation upon completion of the remaining technical and regulatory requirements.
Energy Undersecretary Mario C. Marasigan emphasized that the Task Force continues to closely monitor each project to ensure implementation schedules remain on track while proactively addressing issues that may affect project completion.
Among the major projects under active monitoring is the Bugallon and Terra Solar power facilities, with an expected capacities of 530MW and up to 750 MW, respectively. The facilities are currently undergoing commissioning activities, with testing progressing in coordination with the system operator. The DOE is working closely with project proponents and relevant stakeholders to expand the plant's testing capacity in the coming weeks as part of its phased commissioning toward full commercial operation.
