DOE: Strong RE Investment Among Key Strategies Amid Middle East Pressures
The Department of Energy (DOE) underscores the strong share of energy investments in Board of Investments (BOI) approvals for the first two months of 2026, signaling sustained investor confidence in the country’s clean energy transition and reinforcing efforts to strengthen long term energy security.
Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said the ₱22.4 billion energy investments approved from January to February, out of ₱47 billion in total BOI approvals highlights the urgency of accelerating domestic energy development as developments in the Middle East continue to impact global fuel supply and prices.
“Expanding renewable energy capacity is one of our key strategies to strengthen the Philippines’ energy independence as tensions in the Middle East continue to affect global markets,” Secretary Garin said.
The DOE said the continued momentum in renewable energy investments supports the government’s broader response under Executive Order No. 110, which seeks to protect energy supply stability and strengthen the country’s resilience amid global market disruption.
“Our response is two-pronged: we are managing immediate risks while accelerating long-term structural reforms,” Secretary Garin said. “Renewable energy development is central to that strategy: first as a long-term transition priority, as well as a practical way to reduce the country’s exposure to imported fuels impacted by the Middle East conflict.”
The Department also said that the increase in project approvals and foreign investment inflows reflects firm investor confidence in the Philippine energy sector and underscores the importance of efficient permitting and implementation for strategic energy projects.
“Under the directive of the President, the DOE is moving with urgency to accelerate renewable energy development and ensure that projects are delivered on schedule or even earlier,” Secretary Garin said. “We are streamlining processes and strengthening coordination across agencies, including the BOI, and with developers to move critical energy projects forward while ensuring system readiness and reliability.”
The Department noted that this builds on its ongoing efforts to accelerate the delivery of renewable energy capacity, including the push to bring 1,471 MW of committed renewable and energy storage projects into the grid by April 2026.
With renewable energy continuing to lead the nation’s investment pipeline, the DOE said these projects must ultimately translate into more stable supply, improved system resilience, and better protection for consumers against global energy price shocks.
“Every additional megawatt of renewable energy we bring online strengthens our ability to withstand global volatility,” Secretary Garin added. “This is how we convert investment momentum into real energy security: more stable supply, greater resilience, and a system that better protects the Filipino people.” ###
